Infertility

A procedure known as in vitro fertilisation (IVF) involves combining an egg and sperm outside of the body, hence the term "in vitro" (Latin for "in glass"). The procedure entails monitoring and promoting ovulation in a woman, extracting an egg or eggs from her ovaries, and then allowing sperm to fertilise them in a liquid in a lab. The fertilised egg (zygote) is placed in the uterus of the same or another woman after undergoing embryo culture for 2-6 days in order to establish a viable pregnancy. IVF is a form of assisted reproduction that is used for gestational surrogacy and infertility therapy.

It is possible to implant a fertilised egg into a surrogate's uterus, and the developing kid has a genetic connection to the surrogate even if she typically does not. Fertility tourism has been made possible in several nations by IVF treatment restrictions or outright bans. Costs and the maximum age at which a woman can become pregnant without risk of an ectopic pregnancy are two factors that limit the use of IVF.
